I really enjoyed my playthrough of Sundered Isles but agree that I wish it was stand alone. The tables are so well done. I do find myself struggling to describe the open sea over and over, which if you're just playing and not publishing wouldn't matter. I would probably enjoy it more if I wasn't then trying to turn it into an exciting and engaging story for others to read.
Well, there are cresting waves, white-tipped waves... Um like still waves? I get your point! I didn't do a Sundered Isles AP but I do see where that would be a problem. I thought your play-through was great fun.
I'll admit that I haven't even looked at Sundered Isles even though I received the PDFs as a stretch goal for backing Starforged. The whole age of sail isn't a gaming genre that appeals to me, as a general rule (Swashbucklers of the 7 Skies not withstanding...)
But as a suggestion for the open ocean discussion, would it be worth describing cosmetic things that the character(s) spot on the open ocean that don't really have any real narrative impact on things?
For example:
- a pod of whales or dolphins swims alongside the ship, breaching or singing or something.
- Sharks are seen in the water, perhaps feeding on something like a dead whale (or sailor).
- great rafts of pumice stone from a relatively nearby volcanic eruption.
- miscellaneous flotsam and jetsam - nothing particularly useful, but perhaps wreckage from an older naval battle, or what have you.
I actually really like having the rules and oracles in separate books. That's one of my struggles with the SF reference guide. The two books makes it much simpler to find the table I'm looking for.

Great review, reminded me to dust off my copy and give it a go. Thoughts on reviewing GO RPG or Unbroken?

Hold up! An oracle for ships???? Be still my oracle loving heart! ❤️
There are a ton a great oracles packed into this game. Well worth checking it out just for that.
"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."
Give me a second while this Floridian unsubscribes real quick.
Joking aside, a great review of something I've been a bit curious about so it was super helpful to hear your take on it!
Great stuff
