There is another way to play and it is my favorite - PBtA way (Ironsworn).

Just roll 2 sets of dice. if both are success - it is full succes.

if only one - success with a price that moves story forward.

Both misses - total failure.

for me it is the only way to play.

A reader after my own heart. The ironsworn system is so elegant and would work perfectly in this situation.

Do you use that for combat also?

I'd love more details on how you use it, and second Croaker's question about combat. I cut my teeth on Ironsworn and it will always be my favorite TTRPG (solo or otherwise), but I crave a bit more complex combat (and inventory/wealth system).

Same! I don't trust myself to set difficulty ratings or I'll go too easy 🤣

Thanks for reading! A lot of people think solo RPGs are somehow new but they've been making them and writing about them since the very start of the hobby.

Honestly, I have not played 5th edition few years now. Sold my books as I prefer other systems. I am more storyteller than tactical combat type. But based on tbe other old school games I play I would say yes, in combat too. like full hit would be advantage for hero, weak hit dissadvantage for hero, etc..

I don't play much 5e either. I like the idea of using the strong hit/weak hit as advantage/DisAdv

Elminster's is such a good suggestion! It was the first 5e specific emulator I tried and, in my opinion, was much easier to use with 5e than Mythic (and I love Mythic). I have several chapters/sessions of a solo 5e game using Elminster's that I really should finish and post. The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox is also a really good one, though quite a bit more expensive.

Also, I really need to play Cargoth. Its maybe my favorite thing you've made so far, and I've not even looked at the new edition!
